Flags That Look Alike
Some flags are so similar they're almost impossible to tell apart. Explore the most commonly confused flag pairs and learn what makes each one unique.
Romania vs Chad
Often called the most similar flags in the world, Romania and Chad both feature vertical blue, yellow, and red stripes. The only difference is a subtle shade variation — Chad uses a slightly darker blue (Indigo) while Romania uses a brighter cobalt blue.
Monaco vs Indonesia
Both flags consist of two horizontal bands — red on top and white below. The only difference is the proportions: Monaco uses a 4:5 ratio while Indonesia uses a 2:3 ratio.
Ireland vs Ivory Coast
Both are vertical tricolors of green, white, and orange. The key difference is the order: Ireland has green at the hoist (left) side, while Ivory Coast has orange at the hoist side.
Australia vs New Zealand
Both feature a blue ensign with the Union Jack in the canton and stars representing the Southern Cross. Australia has six white stars (including a large Commonwealth Star), while New Zealand has four red stars with white borders.
Norway vs Iceland
Both feature a Nordic cross design. Norway uses a red background with a blue cross outlined in white, while Iceland uses a blue background with a red cross outlined in white — essentially reversed colors.
Netherlands vs Luxembourg
Both are horizontal tricolors of red, white, and blue. Luxembourg uses a lighter shade of blue (sky blue) compared to the Netherlands' darker cobalt blue, and has a slightly different ratio.
India vs Niger
Both feature horizontal bands of orange (saffron), white, and green. India has the Ashoka Chakra (a 24-spoke blue wheel) at the center, while Niger has an orange circle representing the sun.
Colombia vs Ecuador
Both feature a yellow-blue-red horizontal tricolor with the yellow band being twice the width of the others. Ecuador adds its coat of arms at the center, while Colombia's flag is plain.
Sweden vs Ukraine
Both flags use blue and yellow. Sweden has a Nordic cross design (yellow cross on blue background), while Ukraine has two simple horizontal bands — blue on top and yellow below.
Mali vs Guinea
Both are vertical tricolors using Pan-African colors. Mali is green-yellow-red from hoist to fly, while Guinea is red-yellow-green — the same colors in reverse order.
